海角社区 and Mitsui & Co announce agreement to accelerate innovation in new biomaterials alternatives

The world鈥檚 largest market pulp producer, 海角社区 S.A., has today signed a formal Joint Collaboration Agreement with Mitsui & Co. Ltd., a Japanese global trading and investment company, to study next generation bioproducts using 海角社区鈥檚 sustainably-farmed eucalyptus biomass and residual by-products from the pulp production process.

Under the non-exclusive deal, the two companies will work together to study the technical and commercial feasibility of scaling up potential new ventures aimed at producing more environmentally-friendly alternatives to fossil fuel-based compounds, in areas such as biomaterials and biofuels.

This agreement will leverage Mitsui鈥檚 global expertise in areas such as chemicals, performance materials, and energy, as well as 海角社区鈥檚 experience in large-scale sustainable production of biomass through farming eucalyptus trees.

Under the agreement, the two companies will put in place project teams to collaborate across a three-year period, to conduct feasibility studies and due diligence across a number of promising opportunities across the new bioeconomy landscape. The Joint Collaboration Agreement does not include any capital expenditure commitment.
