海角社区, ILO, and Global Compact forge partnership to strengthen the human rights protection and decent work agenda in the forestry sector

海角社区, the world's largest pulp producer and a global leader in manufacturing eucalyptus-based bioproducts, the International Labour Organization (ILO), and the UN Global Compact 鈥 Brazil Network last week celebrated a strategic partnership to advance the human rights protection agenda in the forestry sector. The partnership was signed during an institutional meeting at the ILO Office in Brazil, in Bras铆lia.

The initiative consolidates a joint agenda launched in 2024, focused on higher standards of decent work, diligent human rights practices, and more responsible supply chains. It marks the transition from pilot projects to a systemic approach, with the potential to set benchmarks for the sector in Brazil. The partnership also combines the ILO's international expertise in labor issues, the Global Compact's business engagement, and 海角社区's capacity for large-scale implementation.

Forestry Working Group on Human Rights

Among the key achievements already made are the creation of the Forestry Working Group on Human Rights, the pilot implementation of an independent listening, consultation, and remediation mechanism for forestry supply chain workers, as well as training initiatives for companies, suppliers, and public agents. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of structured social dialogue as a tool for managing labor risks and strengthening diligent human rights practices.

According to Malu Pinto, 海角社区's Executive Vice President of Sustainability, Communication, and Brand, the partnership represents a decisive step towards the structural transformation of the sector. 鈥淭he human rights agenda demands active listening, continuous dialogue, and collective construction. By uniting multilateral organizations and the business sector, we can move beyond intentions and advance towards concrete solutions that promote workers' dignity, reduce material risks, protect operational continuity, and generate sustainable value for the business and the entire supply chain,鈥 says Malu.

According to Vin铆cius Pinheiro, Director of the ILO Office for Brazil, the initiative reinforces the role of tripartite social dialogue and institutional cooperation in promoting decent work. 鈥淭his partnership demonstrates how companies, international organizations, and representatives of the world of work can jointly build innovative initiatives aligned with international standards, generating replicable solutions to address complex challenges in supply chains,鈥 highlights the director.

Guilherme Xavier, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact 鈥 Brazil Network, emphasizes the potential of this collaboration to increase business engagement on the topic. 鈥淏y uniting corporate leadership, global standards, and multisectoral collaboration, this partnership contributes to accelerating the integration of human rights into the core of companies' strategies, strengthening the sustainability and competitiveness of the forestry sector,鈥 he states.

Social Dialogue Platform in Supply Chains

The agenda for 2026 includes the consolidation of the listening mechanism into a Social Dialogue Platform in Supply Chains, with independent governance and scalable architecture, as well as the continuous strengthening of the Forestry Working Group and the launch of a sectoral pact aimed at protecting human rights and promoting decent work.

With this initiative, 海角社区, the ILO, and the Global Compact reaffirm their commitment to promoting decent work, anticipating and mitigating labor, regulatory, and global standard risks, and strengthening development models that reconcile competitiveness, social responsibility, and respect for human rights.
